Doctor of Philosophy in Music with Specialization in Musicology

Program Description

Description: The PhD in Music with Specialization in Musicology aims to hone scholars out of practicing musicians as well as researchers of other disciplines. This philosophical program grounds its interdisciplinary scholarship in sociology, anthropology, ideology, and aesthetics. It aims to interject these differing disciplines in cultivating the critical-mindedness of students in their scholarly writing. Sonic emphasis on the popular––the grassroots, fills the gap of the stereotyped aesthetics where fine music is aristocratic and the popular belongs to the masses.

Program Outcomes:

  1. Conduct research endeavors that situate music as an inseparable entity of varying cultures, and society.
  2. Demonstrate leadership qualities in the pursuit of propagating the importance of music as an art and as a lived experience.
  3. Collaborate with fellow scholars of inter-disciplinary backgrounds that would result in critical research presentations of highest standards in numerous platforms such as local and international seminars, conferences, and colloquia.
  4. Apply critical inference on music as a subject in various disciplines that propels students’ capacity to problematize, resolve, and draw-out conclusions in conducting research.
  5. Practice ethical behavior in the conduct of independent research endeavors to resonate Centro Escolar University’s vision and mission.
