CEU Optometry Alumna Receives Doctoral Research Fellowship Grant in Canada

Centro Escolar University School of Optometry alumna Dr. Angela Czarina Villalobos Mejia received the Canada Graduate Scholarship-Doctoral (CGS-D), the most prestigious doctoral research fellowship in Canada by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

Outshining over 1,800 applicants from all across Canada, Dr. Mejia emerged as the top scholar for the highly competitive fellowship. The award will provide full funding for her research through 2027, as she continues her doctoral studies in Visual Neuroscience at the University of British Columbia (UBC).

After completing her Doctor of Optometry degree at CEU, Dr. Mejia moved to Canada where she obtained her master's degree in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene at UBC. She later on continued her graduate studies and gained admission to UBC's Doctor of Philosophy in Neuroscience program.

Dr. Mejia was also the 2nd Place in the July 2010 Optometrists Licensure Exam.
