Centro Escolar University commemorated the remarkable life and legacy of the late Don Emilio T. Yap, Sr. through the installation of his bust at the Student Activity Center which was unveiled on September 24, 2024. The event coincided with the 99th birth anniversary of Don Emilio highlighting his contributions as an industrialist, philanthropist, and visionary leader.
The ceremony opened with a serenade of timeless classics performed by the CEU Conservatory of Music String Trio, followed by a heartfelt prayer song led by the CEU Singers-Manila.
In her tribute message, CEU President Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina reflected on Don Emilio’s guiding principle: “Do unto others what you want them to do to you.” She highlighted his monumental contributions to iconic institutions such as the Manila Bulletin, PhilTrust Bank, The Manila Hotel, and Euro-Med, as well as his unwavering support for CEU.
Dr. Padolina highlighted Don Emilio’s pivotal role in strengthening institutions that have become icons of industry. She also noted his enduring connection with CEU, a premier higher education institution that has recently renewed its Autonomous Status granted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
“Don Emilio T. Yap, industrialist, philanthropist, visionary leader—an icon that CEU is proud to own up as the model for the youth of our and Don Emilio T. Yap’s beloved Philippines,” Dr. Padolina remarked in her tribute.
The unveiling of the bust was officiated by CEU Board Chairman Dr. Basilio C. Yap and President Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina, symbolizing the University’s deep gratitude for Don Emilio’s enduring legacy. The CEU Singers-Manila then performed “Lipad ng Pangarap,” arranged by Prof. Ian Gabriel Corpuz and conducted by Dr. Angelito Ayran.
The event, hosted by Mr. John Carlo Perez, was a collaborative effort of the Physical Plant and Facilities Department headed by Engr. Ronie Siniguian, in partnership with the Marketing Communications Department under Dr. Ma. Eleanor C. Espinas.
As CEU celebrates the memory of Don Emilio T. Yap, Sr., his life continues to inspire generations of Escolarians and Filipinos to embrace leadership, compassion, and unwavering dedication to service.
