Doctor of Dental Medicine

Program Description

This program follows the prescribed curriculum and provides quality dental education that ensures the holistic development of its graduates to become globally competitive, technically capable and socially sensitive oral health care service professionals. After taking this program, graduates can choose from a variety of enriching employment opportunities where they can practice their chosen profession.

The School offers graduate programs leading to Master of Science in Dentistry major in Orthodontics and Periodontics, and Master of Science in Health Education major in Dental Education.  

It is the first Dental School in the country to be ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) certified and peer-reviewed by the South East Asia Association for Dental Education (SEAADE) besides being Level IV Reaccredited by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities, Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) as certified by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies in the Philippines (FAAP) and a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Provider of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).

Admission Criteria:Students seeking admission to DMD should be a senior high school graduate preferably STEM strand/track. However, SHS graduates from Non-STEM track are allowed but they have to take 3 units bridging courses to be admitted.
Program Structure:Including levels, courses, units, hours are clearly reflected in the curriculum checklist.
Program Specification:The program specification was written and revised in April 2018 by the Technical Panel for Dental Education, CHED in consultation with the academe, professional organizations, industry partners and other interested parties.
Total Number of Units:283 credit units
Duration:6 years (12 semesters)
Nature of the Program:The DMD program is a six-year program consisting of basic dental and medical science, clinical science and dental public health courses. Included also are research, hospital internship and some general education courses. The program aims to produce graduates for the general practice of the profession who are scientifically knowledgeable, technically-capable and socially-sensitive in the maintenance of health. The graduate shall advance oral health as an integral part of general health and total well-being of the individual.
Program Objectives:The program aims to produce graduates who are adept in the prevention, diagnosis, identification and management of oral needs and diseases of man.
Specific Professions/ Careers/ Occupations for Graduates:A graduate of DMD can practice as a general dental practitioner (private practice, hospitals, local government units, private companies, law enforcement, military, investigative agencies); work as an academician, researcher/dental scientists/innovator, engage in dental pharmaceutical company; can be employed as allied-industry consultants and can become an entrepreneur.
