CEU Sampaguita Interlude: 8 Decades in Blossom

Centro Escolar University will again fill the air with the fragrant flower scent on its 80th Sampaguita Interlude on April 5-6, 2018 at the CEU-Manila North Quadrangle.

Since 1938, the Sampaguita Interlude has been marked as a significant event of the university which serves as formal turnover of duties and responsibilities of the graduating seniors to the juniors who will succeed them.

This longtime tradition is being staged few days before the graduation day where Escolarians gather to perform simple body movements and routines creating different flower formations, while singing the “Fair Sampaguita,” “El Collar de Sampaguita” and “Sampaguitang Mabango.”

The national flower Sampaguita symbolizes the ideal Escolarian, described as “modest, like the spotless whiteness of the sampaguita petals; loyal and sincere, like the flower’s lingering sweetness and its fragrance; firm and courageous, like its green stalks and sturdy sepals”.

This tradition began as an all-female performance and later on included male graduates.
