CEU Music Student Wins 1st in Busan Composition Competition

Centro Escolar University Music Student Ian Gabriel Corpuz placed first in the 4th Busan Composition Competition. 

Out of 107 works submitted by 98 applicants from 36 countries around the world, Corpuz’ brilliant composition titled “Domine Deus Meus” which means “God My Savior” emerged to be the best.

Winners of this year’s composition competition were chosen based on the song’s artistic higher quality and how it was able to impress the judges. 

President of the Jury, Young-Jo Lee assessed that young composers use their personality and blend music and language effectively which leads to an excellent effect.

Ian’s winning piece will be performed on September 9, 2017 at the 2017 Busan Choral Festival and Competition (BCFC). Professor Angelito E. Ayran, Jr., Head of the CEU Conservatory of Music will accompany Ian and lead the conducting of the song performance. Together with the 2nd and 3rd placers, he will receive a Diploma and cash prize.

As a member of the 2017 BCFC, all winners are entitled to participate in all the Festival activities including the Choral Competition, Choral Workshops and additional performances.

Ian is currently taking Bachelor of Arts in Music major in Conducting, which is a program the CEU School of Education-Liberal Arts-Music-Social Work (SELAMS) headed by Dr. Maria Rita D. Lucas.
