CEU Dentistry Student is Global Deputy Director of ASEAN Youth Advocates Network

Centro Escolar University School of Dentistry student Reyna Monica Gaspar is promoted as Global Deputy Director for Internal Affairs of the ASEAN Youth Advocates Network (AYAN) from being an active member since September 2020.

“Currently, I am a part of AYAN, an international youth-led, non-profit and socio-civic organization established to pave the way for the ASEAN youth to experience involvement in their localities through a series of advocacy-based activities and initiatives”, shared Reyna Monica.

With her position in AYAN, she is now in-charge of its internal mechanisms and regulations. Prior to her appointment, she has been engaged in various projects and initiatives including on-ground and online activities as an organizer, a project head, and a participant such as the ASEAN Youth Cares, ASEAN Youth Week 2021, ASEAN Mental Health Summit, and UNSW-ASEAN Conference to name a few.

“I was initially inspired by my experience at the Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC) in joining youth organizations outside CEU. After months of experience in working with my fellow youth advocates across the country, I felt the need for the youth sector to step up and act upon the challenges we are facing today, which eventually led me to join various organizations such as AYAN, with a mission and vision related to my advocacies of servant leadership and youth empowerment”, said Reyna Monica.

She believes that by joining AYAN, she will be able to continue her passion to serve her fellow youth even after finishing her degree and her post as the President of the Dentistry Student Council last School Year.

As an active member of the said organization, she led the upscaling of the organization to the Global Youth Advocates Network (GYAN), an international youth-led, non-profit organization established for the global youth to be active volunteers that advocates youth empowerment, inclusive societies, and promotion of well-being around the globe.

One of the most memorable projects that she participated in was the ASEAN Youth Cares where youth volunteers travelled across the country to aid the Filipinos who were victims of strong typhoons. What makes it fulfilling for her is seeing the smiles and hearing inspiring stories of the beneficiaries.

Through these involvements, the 22-year-old student gained confidence and necessary skills on how to deal with international relations and also improved her interpersonal skills which are essential in her chosen profession. She shared with her fellow student leaders as well her experience and encouraged them to do the same which can help hone their leaderships skills.

“To my fellow Escolarians, as we adapt to this ever-changing world, now more than ever, our actions significantly affect our hopes in achieving positive change and sustainable development. We no longer have to wait for the change to happen. We must initiate the change we want to see in this world ourselves. Now is the time to be aware and reasonably disturbed. As we venture into this new normal, we must bring with us the extraordinary character of integrity and social responsibility like what CEU has instilled in us”, said Reyna Monica.

Reyna Monica is presently in her 6th year as a Doctor of Dental medicine student.
