CEU Singers Manila Presents Carpe Diem

The Centro Escolar University Singers Manila serenaded the Escolarians through their musical presentation titled “Carpe Diem” at the CEU Library Circulation Area last September 1, 2016.

CEU Singers Manila showcased their vocal prowess as they sang hymns, folksongs, and Original Pilipino Music (OPM) such as Jubilate Deo by Orlando Lasso, Alleluia by Lester Delgado, Dandansoy by Emmanuel Laureola, Maghihintay Sa Iyo by JL Viteño and many more.

The sweet-sounding harmony created by the choral group complemented the theme “Carpe Diem”, a Latin phrase which means “seize the day”.

Being the official resident choir of CEU Manila, the CEU Singers is composed of male and female students from different programs of the University and even alumni. Professor Angelito E. Ayran Jr., head of the CEU Conservatory of Music served as its conductor.

The group has been recognized internationally through their outstanding performances in various competitions.

They won the Gold and Silver Awards at the 2nd Vietnam International Choir Competition in Hue, Vietnam in 2012 and received Silver Diplomas in three categories at the 10th Anniversary of A Voyage of Songs 2013 in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2014, they also made it to the finals of the MUSICA FEUROPA and became one of the semi-finalists in the MBC Choral Competition.

A year after, they were chosen as Grand Finalist at the National Music Competitions for Young Artists held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and a recipient of the 2015 Aliw Awards Foundation for Best Choral Group.

This year, the group again brought pride not just to CEU but for the Philippines as they bagged three Gold Diploma Awards as Chamber Choir Category Champion and Grand Prix finalist at the recent 9th Orientale Concentus International Choral Competition in Singapore.
