Awardees consist of the alumni who chose CEU as ground for their children’s tertiary education and the academic and non-academic staff who have rendered service for 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years.

Loyalty Day serves as a long-time tradition, held early September to commemorate the birthday of Dr. Concepcion Aguila, the icon of fidelity to the CEU’s dictum of Science and Virtue. This year, her birthdate fell on a Sunday, hence, the event was staged on the 14th of September.

The celebration started with a Thanksgiving Mass at the CEU Chapel led by Reverend Fr. Eugene S. Elivera, University Chaplain.

Dressed in their Filipino-inspired attires, the awardees gathered inside the CEU- Librada Avelino Auditorium, the venue set for the Awarding Ceremony.

This year, 78 individuals were given the Service Awards, five of them were recipients of the 40-year Service Award namely: Dr. Amelita M. Borlongan, Emma C. Castor, Marcelina B. Dalde, Rosa M. Quizon and Evelina D. Vasquez.

CEU President and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Maria Cristina D. Padolina, shared an inspirational message about reaping what was sown, relating it to the CEU people who have made CEU farm a “fertile educational land”. She also recognized the Academic and Non-Teaching Department Heads of the University for helping the University fulfill its mission and realize its vision.

The guest speaker for this year’s Loyalty Day was Ms. Miriam Azupardo-Tamayo, an alumna of the University Girls Elementary School and High School. In her speech, she paid tribute to Dr. Concepcion Aguila and shared stories of her mother, Esperanza Azupardo about Centro Escolar De Señoritas, Doña Carmen De Luna, and Dr. Concepcion Aguila. She is the daughter of Esperanza Azupardo, niece of Doña Carmen De Luna, co-founder of CEU.

Mr. Carlito Reyes, parent-alumnus gave the Parent Awardee’s response while Dr. Amelita Borlongan, 40-year Service Awardee delivered the Service Awardee’s response.
