CEU PRESENTS RIZAL: LARAWAN NG ISANG BAYANI

The yearlong celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal peaks with Centro Escolar University’s presentation of a   concert dubbed Rizal: Larawan ng Isang Bayani, to be held at the CEU Mendiola Student Activity Center on January 18, 2012, at 5:30 p.m.

The CEU Presidential Committee on Culture and the Arts ( PCCA) founded by the university’s president,  Dr. Ma. Cristina Padolina, produces Rizal: Larawan ng Isang Bayani also in celebration of Arts Month, with Dr. Carlito Olaer, vice president for Student Affairs, and Dr. Teresita G. Carey, dean of the School of Education, Liberal Arts, Music and Social Work (SELAMS) as chairs of the Steering Committee.

Sopranos Camille Lopez Molina and Elisanta Cortez grace the concert as special performers. Other participants are the CEU Singers conducted by Professor Angelito Ayran Jr. , CEU Concert Band conducted by Professor Fredeline Parin; CEU Dramatic Guild, with Jef-Henson Dee as adviser;  CEU Dance Troupe with Marciano Viri as artistic director; and Homer Cabansag, solo guitarist.

Ed Villarante, SELAMS Mass Communication professor, directs the presentation with Reggie Arciga creating the stage concept and design. The concert will have five segments:

Kamusmusan ng Bayani—Rizal’s birth, family, youth, and education;

Paglalakbay at Pag-ibig—Rizal’s travels in Europe and his heartaches;

Pag-alab ng Damdamin—excerpts from his novels, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo;

Pagkamakabayan—the establishment of the Katipunan as inspired by Rizal’s novels;

Katapusan at Simula—Rizal’s death and the birth of a free nation.

Marciano Viri writes the script in cooperation with the Department of Social Sciences led by Dr. Imelda Nery.

The celebration starts with a PCCA exhibit of rare Rizal mementos with contributions of Guhit, a group with exclusive works of arts on the various points of Rizal’s life. The exhibit will be inaugurated on January 16, 2012, and will be open for two weeks from then on. Committee chairs are Tessie Ramirez and Dr. Imelda Nery.

Other Committee heads are:  Jef-Henson Dee, Invitation Design; Dr. Lourdes Baello, Dr. Thelma Jambalos, and Dr. Christopher Jay Cortado, Documentation and Evaluation; Cynthia U. Santiago, Publicity and Promotion.

Members of the Research Committee are Dr. Editha Evangelista, Dr. Lucila Canindo, Dr. Lorenzo Hipolito, Ramon Andal, Alipio Rongcales, Milagros Macalalad, Dominadora Edulag, Crisanta Fontanilla, Julius de Leon, and Sagira Kuhutan.

Members of the Technical Committee are Grace Villanueva, head, CEU-MIAD, Noel Aguila, Ernani Ramos, Vincent Trinidad, Peter John Rinchon, Nellivi Nicole Vicente, Mia Nica Zeelina Sadiwa, Kelechi David Carino, and Joe Marie Efe.
