Centennial Research Project on Science & Technology

CEU embarked on this research to commemorate the hundred years since its founding. Like the hundred years that has borne fruit in innumerable ways among the graduates of the University, the one hundred wild plants that is the subject of this research has the potential of producing a fount of biological, chemical and pharmacological information that will lead to a better understanding of our world and about how the products from these plants may benefit humankind.

The Research Compendium of 100 Wild Plants is CEU way of sharing the research findings with students, teachers, and the general public. The fruits of CEUs research efforts will reach and benefit the many Filipinos especially the rural folks who are surrounded by this bounty from nature – the 100 wild plants of the Philippines. Multidisciplinary Researches

3.1.4.1Integrated Research on Health and Wellness

Its primary thrust is to contribute to the promotion and preservation of the quality of life of the elderly and the older persons by conducting researches on their pressing needs. The results of the study shall help the aging population of the country by establishing a bases for a proposed health and wellness program of the elderly. This is participated in by faculty and students from the College of Optometry, School of Dentistry, College of Medical Technology, School of Nutrition and Hospitality Management, School of Pharmacy, College of Nursing and the Behavioral Science and Social Science Departments.

The 7 researches under this project were:

  1. College of Medical Technology: Variations in Clinical Chemistry and Hematological Parameters Among the Elderly in Malolos, Bulacan by Dr. Julieta Z. Dungca, Dr. Aileen C. Patron and Miss Ma. Cristina Liwanag.
  2. College of Nursing: The Folk Health Practices in the Care of the Elderly by Dr. Relita G. Brecia, Mrs. Cresencia Manalastas-Santos, Dean Merlina V. Loquiao and Mrs. Rhoda Aguilar
  3. College of Optometry: A Comparative Study of the Effects of Healthy Diet and Dietary Supplements on Visual Acuity Among the Elderly by Dr. Jessica F. Torre, Mrs. Lourdes Daisy V. Romero, and Dr. Maria Cecilia Lintag-Yu
  4. School of Dentistry : The Oral Health Status of the Elderly Dr.  Maria Jona D. Godoy, Dr. Pearly P. Lim, Dr. Shirley S. Wong
  5. School of Pharmacy: Drug Utilization and Compliance Among the Elderly: Basis for Pharmacist Intervention Mrs. Mary Jane C. Cruz, Dr. Donnabelle U. Dean and Miss Penuel P David

  7. Behavioral Sciences Department: The Life Satisfaction Levels of the Elderly Dr. Maria Dolores E. Delacruz and Dr. Dorothea C. Dela Cruz
3.1.4.2 Integrated Research on Sustainable Development

The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of  Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in coordination with Centro Escolar  University, organized a forum on the topic, The Ecological Indicators of Pollution.

Collaborative Researches with other institutions

U-Belt Consortium

Centro Escolar University is one of the members of the University Belt Consortium, along with thirteen other universities, namely, Adamson University (AU), Arellano University, Centro Escolar University (CEU), Far Eastern University (FEU), Feati University, Jose Rizal University (JRU), Lyceum University, Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU), Mapua University (MU), National University (NU), University of the East (UE), University of Sto. Tomas (UST), and the University of Manila (UM).

CEU was one of the research teams that jointly undertook the study, The Application of Sediment Along Pasig River Tributaries. Moreover, this collaborative (Editor note: incomplete both here and in the hard copy.)

Mendiola Consortium Research Committee

One of the consortiums collaborative projects is the study on Mendiola Consortium: Status and Prospects, 1975-2005. It was published as a book and was launched on December 11, 2006, with Dr. Amelia A. Biglete, Director, NCR, CHED as guest of honor.
